History

Established in the 19th-century

Maroon & Moss Residence is housed in a late-19th-century building located at 1093 Budapest, Gönczy Pál utca 6, in the heart of Ferencváros — one of the city’s most characterful historic districts.

The building was erected during Budapest’s great period of urban expansion, when the city was transforming into a modern European capital. At the time, Ferencváros emerged as a vibrant residential quarter, shaped by elegant apartment houses designed for the growing middle class. The architecture of the building reflects this era: solid proportions, generous ceiling heights, and refined historicist details typical of Budapest’s turn-of-the-century residential architecture.

Our building restoration respects the building’s original spirit while introducing a modern, design-led approach. Original proportions, textures, and architectural rhythms are preserved and complemented by curated materials, warm tones, and refined details — allowing guests to experience Budapest not only as visitors, but as temporary residents within its living heritage.

Art & Design

Carefully Curated

Throughout the residence, you’ll find curated prints by a local Hungarian artist — thoughtfully selected to complement the maroon and moss tones that define our interiors.

This collaboration is part of our ongoing commitment to supporting local talent and bringing authentic, contemporary Hungarian art into our spaces. We take pride in showcasing and celebrating the work of emerging and established artists alike.
